History Of Borderline Speedway
The Borderline Speedways “Bull Ring” has always been known as the picturesque speedway amongst the trees and today following several developments the surroundings remain the same, providing a relaxed country style atmosphere.

Borderline Speedway commenced life almost fifty years ago over the border in Victoria on a private property. This venue was unsuccessful and was stopped by the “authorities” before racing even commenced. Following the abandonment of this event the present site at Glenburnie was purchased by 17 hot rod racing enthusiasts and operated as the Borderline Speedway.

Racing in the early years was basic with little regards to safety, but still lots of fun. As the years passed, many of the founding members moved on and with new blood the South East Racing Car Club Inc. was established to lease the property from Borderline Speedway Pty.Ltd. and continue to operate the race meetings.

In 1987 the SERCC purchased the speedway property and commenced a major redevelopment of the venue which included: new track shape and concrete fence, control tower, lighting, safety fence and further land purchased costing about $100,000. This was funded by an issue of debentures to club members and shareholders of Borderline Speedway Pty. Ltd.

It was a significant time for Borderline Speedway, giving the new venue national publicity as one of the top six speedway complexes in Australia. This quite an achievement for a small club.Since 1987 a further $150,000 has been spent to further upgrade the complex. This has seen additional land purchased for car parking, further terraced areas, new toilet amenities and canteens, upgraded PA system. The pit area now includes a bitumen loop and form up area. All this to provide spectators and competitors with a first class complex.

In 1995 Borderline Speedway hosted the City of Mount Gambier Australian Sprintcar Title which was a huge success for the club. Since then the club has hosted numerous State and National Titles. Many local drivers being successful gaining top three placings both at Borderline Speedway and at other venues in their chosen classes.

Every year Borderline Speedway hosts the Kings Sprintcar Challenge, World Series Sprintcars and the famous Easter Sprintcar Trail.
